No. Whatever you may think, YOU DON'T NEED A 14 MPG PREMIUM-FUEL LAND ROVER to navigate the center of London. Stop showing off and start behaving responsibly.
This isn’t about how much we individually can or cannot contribute to making the planet a bit healthier, in precise quantitative terms; it’s about setting an example and acknowledging that just because we can do something, it doesn’t mean we should.
Just in case you missed it:
SUVs are not a fringe issue. In 2024, SUVs accounted for 54% of all new passenger vehicle sales in Europe—an all-time record, with nearly 7 million SUVs sold last year, up 4% over 2023. And who’s behind the wheel of these premium machines? The data is clear: premium vehicle sales track closely with higher incomes—the affluent drive the trend.
So does climate damage. Since 1990, the wealthiest 10% of the world’s population have been responsible for two-thirds of global warming; the top 1% now emit more carbon than the poorest 66% combined.
Leading by example isn’t optional. If you have privilege, you have responsibility—period. The world does not need another display of “free” irresponsibility.
It’s time to align wealth with wisdom and make choices that respect the world we all share.
